Request Message is a 2D psychological horror mystery that follows Danilo Trinidad as he returns to his hometown to investigate the disappearance of a childhood friend. In Request Message the focus is on slow-burning investigation, close reading of clues, and a narrative that changes with every meaningful choice; the game blends atmospheric exploration with branching dialogue and emotion-driven consequences that alter both story and character perception. Designed for players who prefer mood, careful pacing, and morally ambiguous situations, the experience asks you to pay attention to small details and to replay chapters to reveal alternate outcomes.
The core gameplay is a mixture of choice-based narrative and investigative exploration. Players move through hand-crafted 2D environments, inspect objects, and consult an in-game diary that logs clues, memories, and messages left behind. Investigation is deliberate rather than action-oriented: examine notes, combine observations from different locations, and decide how Danilo interprets each piece of evidence. Choices do more than change dialogue: they affect Danilo’s emotional state, which in turn can open or close certain options later in the story. Encounters include environmental puzzles and tense narrative sequences that require attention to audio and visual cues instead of reflexes, creating a challenge rooted in observation and interpretation.
Request Message supports fully rebindable keyboard controls so players can arrange keys to suit their comfort and playstyle. The game is primarily designed for keyboard and mouse on PC, with clear on-screen prompts for interactions. Accessibility options are included to improve readability and comfort: adjustable text size, subtitle toggles for all spoken descriptions, and an option to slow text presentation for players who prefer a calmer reading pace. These settings, combined with customizable input, make the experience approachable for different play styles and needs.
Progression is narrative-driven and structured around investigation arcs rather than level-based advancement. As you uncover clues and make decisions, the diary and map update to reflect new leads and locations. The branching structure provides multiple narrative paths and several distinct endings based on how Danilo’s emotions and choices evolve. Because choices influence both plot and the protagonist’s mental state, replaying the game to test different investigative approaches or to follow new leads offers significant replay value. Players who enjoy uncovering all story threads will find subsequent runs reveal additional context, previously hidden messages, and alternative resolutions.
The visual presentation in Request Message uses 2D art to create a moody, memory-driven world where lighting and detail shape mood and tension. Environments feel lived-in: childhood locations, quiet streets, and interior spaces are designed to reward close inspection. An eerie soundscape underscores exploration with ambient textures and carefully placed audio moments that heighten suspense. Sudden visual or audio events are used sparingly to preserve impact, and audio design works hand-in-hand with the diary and in-game messages to convey narrative information and emotional nuance.
Challenges come from deciphering clues, connecting disparate pieces of information, and making choices under ambiguous circumstances. Puzzle-like investigation segments encourage methodical play rather than trial-and-error, and the game avoids punitive mechanics that interrupt immersion. The experience is offline and focused on single-player storytelling, with a compact installation size and modest system requirements suitable for many Windows PCs. Clear save points and a map feature help players track their progress and return to the story at their own pace.
Request Message was developed as a final capstone project by a team of fourth-year BSIT students using the Godot engine; this is their first full game and the project reflects a student-driven approach to narrative design. The team values player feedback and intends to use community responses to document improvements and refine accessibility and stability over time. System requirements and installation notes are provided with the build, and because the game runs locally on Windows PCs there is no need for online accounts or persistent network access to play.
